Entry Requirements Students should have achieved at least grade C at GCSE in one of the Design Technology subjects and have a genuine interest in the subject. In addition, good grades in English, Science and Art and Design would be an advantage.
What You Will Learn During your course of study you will undertake a series of assignments, which develop your abilities as a designer. You will read widely in order to appreciate the work of other designers whilst broadening your own creativity. A number of projects will be set, most being part of the assessment programme (see above). A students guide may be obtained by visiting the OCR website at www.ocr.org.uk
Subject Expectations We expect: commitment, an adventurous streak, team players, enquiring minds, academic ability and a desire to achieve to a high standard. There is an expectation that students will purchase the coursework book. “Advanced Design and Technology”, and fund their own materials. Career Opportunities With a qualification in Design and Technology you may go to study at higher or further education level with a view to a career in the engineering, manufacturing or design industries. Do take the time to explore the implications of such careers – they are probably not what you expect. Allied Subjects Common profiles link Design and Technology with Maths and Science for an engineering biased career pathway, or with Art and Design, English or Theatre Studies for progression into a wide range of design based careers including everything from product design, theatre design to interior design. (You could be the next Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen or Linda Barker!) Key Skills This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills. The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study. It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education.
