Entry Requirments It is preferable that students have obtained a grade C in History although students who have not studied history before may also be considered. How You Will Learn Through discussion and group work. Note taking. Presentations. Use of ICT (Power Point, Word, Publisher, and Internet). Use of videos. Through excursions (e.g. battlefields & Berlin) and conferences (University of London). Use of Interactive white board In Year 12, students will sit a three-hour long paper. In Year 13, students will sit two separate papers, which are 1½ hours long each. Subject Expectations All students are expected to read widely around the subject. All students are expected to work hard and attend lessons regularly. It is preferable if students are competent at ICT. An ability to write answers and essays in a structured, analytical and conclusive way are essential to progression in History. Students must possess an ability to critically assess the value of evidence from a variety of different sources. Career Opportunities Banking. Finance. Insurance. Teaching. The Civil Service. Computing. Sales. The Police. The Fire Service. Allied Subjects This course is an excellent opportunity to improve language and literacy skills and can be run in conjunction with English Literature. However, skills in ICT, Geography and Law / Economics are helpful. Key Skills This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills. The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study. It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education.
