Assessment Method and Componenet Percentages

This course consists of six units.  Each unit is assessed as it is completed.  Only two units are assessed externally by examination the others are assessed internally and moderated externally.

None.

What You Will Learn

You will:

  • Gain a broad understanding of ICT and be able to study selected area in more depth.
  • Develop skills, knowledge and understanding of ICT.
  • Follow a programme of study that enables progression to AVCE ICT.
  • Gain confidence through developing learning skills.
  • Various units presenting information, handling information, hardware and software and three optional units.

How You Will Learn

You will be taught certain skills and given information.  Then you will be given specific assessments to be produced by specific times.  Failure to comply with these targets means that you will fail that unit and therefore the overall GNVQ course.

Subject Expectations

The most important thing you need in order to take this course is a lively enquiring mind, an interest in information and communication technology.  We also require dedication.  The time given to complete the course is insufficient to complete the entire syllabus in class time.  Students will be expected to complete various pieces of work in their own time. 

Career Opportunitites

This subject in itself will not be sufficient for students to go out into the computer industry.  It will however provide an excellent starting point for students to go onto AVCE ICT.  Some students may want to bypass any academic route and go onto Microsoft Engineering certification.

Allied Subjects

English – to communicate your ideas i.e. to write reports etc.

Key Skills

This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills.  The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study.  It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education. Key skills are available at level 1 or level 2 for IT, appreciation of Numbers and Communication.
