Assessment Method and Component Percentages For the award of an Intermediate GNVQ in Leisure and Tourism you must complete 6 Units. Successful completion of all Units and External Assessments will lead to a recognised qualification equivalent 4 GCSE grades at C or above. The 6 Units are made up of 3 compulsory Units and 3 optional Units. 2 of which are externally assessed. The remaining 4 Units will be assessed through the production of extended assignments. In addition to your Leisure and Tourism studies you can gain Key Skills in Application of Number, Information Technology and Communication. Entry Requirements It is recommended that you have a good standard of English and Maths and basic skills in the use of Information Communication Technology. You should also have a keen interest in Leisure and Tourism Industries and be considering a career within this area. What You Will Learn The Units currently being offered by Minster College are:
Investigating Leisure and Tourism Marketing in Leisure and Tourism (Externally Assessed) Investigating Customer Service Running an Event European Travel Destinations Leisure, Sport and Recreation Facilities/Travel and Tourism Organisations (Externally Assessed)
How You Will Learn You have the opportunity to develop your skills through practical investigation. This may take the form of: Visiting workplaces and talking to people who work there Carrying out research in libraries Visiting speakers Conducting surveys Using case studies and undertaking role plays Studying company brochures and reports Internet Work experience
You will present your findings in various ways, including giving talks and presentations. Subject Expectations You will be expected to attend at all times and demonstrate a high level of commitment. The nature of the course dictates there will be periods of unsupervised self-study and therefore you must be self-disciplined in your approach. Career Opportunities Students gaining an Intermediate GNVQ in Leisure and Tourism will have access to a range of career and further education opportunities. Many students choose to use their qualification to go straight into employment and because Leisure and Tourism students develop the skills that employers are looking for, you can consider a wide range of employment opportunities in such areas as Travel Companies or Leisure Centres. Key Skills This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills. The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study.
