GCSE (M) Modular Maths           1 year

AS Maths                                 1 year

Assessment Method and Component Percentages

GCSE (M) – written exams in November, March and June. (Under review)

AS Maths – 3 written exams in June.

A2 Maths – 6 written exams.  3 sat in June of year 12 and 3 sat in June of year 13.

Entry Requirements

GCSE (M) - Candidates should have at least GCSE Maths at grade D or E.

AS and A2 Maths - Candidates should have at least grade C in Maths and preferably have sat the higher tier paper. 

What You Will Learn

GCSE (M)      
Maths in the context of money management, statistics and consolidation of work based on Algebra and shape and space.

AS Maths        
You will extend your knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry and will study two of the following: Statistics, Mechanics or Decision Maths.

A2 Maths        
You will extend your knowledge of differentiation and integration from AS and be introduced to some new topics as well as studying an applied maths module.

How You Will Learn

Within groups through teacher led lessons.
By guided independent study.
By use of specialist software.

Subject Expectations

Excellent attendance.
Hard work both in and outside of lessons.
The desire to learn.

Career Opportunities

How much do you want to earn?  Recent published research shows that students with A level Maths earn more!

All executive and professional careers require a working knowledge of figures, the analytical skills you will develop are sought after.

Most degree programmes contain a statistics module, you could be one step ahead.

Allied Subjects

All of the following contain or use Maths, so could be studied alongside either AS or A2:

  • The Sciences: Biology, Physics, Chemistry
  • The Humanities: Geography, History, Sociology
  • Business Studies, Economics 
  • PE
  • Technology

Key Skills

This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills.  The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study.  It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education.  The main key skills communication, Information Technology and Application of Numbers are available at Level 1, 2 and 3.
