Length of Course 1 year. Examination Board EDEXCEL Assessment Method and Component Percentages 1. SPECIALIST OPTION - 30% - External assessment (Either composition or folio) 2. PERFORMANCE AND COMPOSING - 30% - External and internal assessment 3. ANALYSING MUSIC - 40% - Listening test and written paper - External assessment. Entry Requirements This course is suitable for students who have obtained the AS qualification. What You Will Learn The course will deepen your understanding and skills in the three areas of performing, composing and listening. In addition you will undertake more rigorous analytical and theoretical studies. How You Will Learn You will continue working at school and at home on composition and performance. You will prepare either a short recital on an instrument of your choice, or a portfolio of advanced compositions. You will practice advanced aural dictation an analytical study of set musical examples. Subject Expectations You should spend considerable time at home working in depth on composition and performance. It is essential to have access to a keyboard instrument for the composition work. You should be prepared to undertake formal academic analysis. Career Opportunities The A2 unit completes the Advanced GCE qualification. This qualifies you for entry to degree or higher education course in music. It can also lead to careers or higher level qualifications in Performing Arts. Allied Subjects Other Performing Arts. Key Skills This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills. The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study. Key points for music AS and A2 Units 1, 2 and 3 comprise the AS qualification. The level of AS is that expected after one year of Post GCSE study. Units 4, 5 and 6 are known as A2 units. The A2 unit represents a further year’s Post AS study. The complete set of units 1-6 constitutes the Advanced GCE qualification.
