COMPOSITION - 30% - Externally assessed coursework 3. LISTENING AND UNDERSTANDING - 40% - Listening test and written paper externally assessed Entry Requirements This course is suitable for students who have obtained a pass in Music at GCSE grade A* - C. What You Will Learn Basically the course will extend and deepen your understanding and skills in the three areas of performing, composing, and listening. Lessons will follow much the same pattern as at GCSE in years 10 and 11, although, obviously, at a more advanced level. How You Will Learn You will work at school and at home on set composition assignments. You will need to practice an instrument regularly in order to increase your skills. You will undertake a wide range of listening assignments and exercise based on music from a broad spread of periods and styles, and will study set examples from the EDEXCEL listening anthology. Subject Expectations You should be prepared to spend time at home in depth on composition and performance. It is very essential to have access to a keyboard instrument for the composition work. Career Opportunities It leads to an advanced supplementary qualification in music, which is either awarded as a discrete qualification or may count for 50% of the full advanced GCE qualification. Allied Subjects Other Performing Arts. Key Skills This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills. The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study. It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education.
