Length of Course 2 years. Examination Board AQA Assessment Method and Componenet Percentages 5 Compulsory units and one optional unit. Entry Requirements This course is suitable for students who have one or more of the following: 1. GCSE at grade A* - C in Music and / or Drama. 2. A standard of literacy and numeracy skills required to achieve a spread of GCSE passes at grades A* - C. 3. Practical experience and a keen interest in the Performing Arts. What You Will Learn The AVCE offers a very wide range of choices for units of study. These can be tailored to candidates’ own strengths and preferences. It is possible to design a course which focuses mainly on music drama or dance, or to adopt a more integrated approach, selecting units from several performing arts disciplines. In all cases, five compulsory units act as the central core of the qualification, with one additional optional unit providing an extension and development of these core studies. One of the compulsory units comprises an externally assessed investigation of the Performing Arts industry. How You Will Learn You will undertake supervised study and projects in the modules of your choice. You will work in conjunction with other students to produce public performances. You will be involved in a considerable amount of research into the Performing Arts industry.

Subject Expectations You should be prepared to develop your chosen skills to a high level and to work collaboratively on public performances. The investigation of the Performing Arts Industry will require a high level of research and presentation skills. Career Opportunities The Performing Arts AVCE is of a standard equivalent to one Advanced GCE. It could lead to a related Higher Education course, or directly into employment. Allied Subjects English, Foreign Languages and IT. Key Skills This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills. The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study. It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education. The main key skills communication, Information Technology and Application of Numbers are available at Level 1, 2 and 3.
