5 GCSEs at A*- c including a B for English language.

What You Will Learn

AS Psychology

Module 1- Topics include:

What is psychology? Key figures in the development of the psychology e.g Freud, the genetic basis of the behaviour, physiological psychology, inheritance and behaviour, research methods and psychology of gender.

Module 2- Topics include:

Attitudes, prejudices and discrimination, conformity, social cognition, the psychology of sport, remembering and forgetting, language and thinking, conition and the law, and amnesia.

Module 3 – Topics include:

A practical investigation based on one of the topics in the first two modules.

A2 Psychology.

Module 4 – Topics include:

Child development (intellectual, moral and social) autism and gifted children, anxiety and eating disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia and treatments of atypical behaviour.

Module 5 – Topics include:

Behaviourist, cognitive, phchoanaytic and humanistic perspectives, methods of research.

Module 6 – Topics include:

A practical investigation.

How You Will Learn

This AQA course has been designed to give students a fundamental understanding of theory, concepts and research in psychology. A critical appreciation of the scientific nature of psychology, an opportunity to develop a capacity for critical thinking and an appreciation of the relationship between the different aspects of the subject and the ability to relate them to contemporary issues.

Career Opportunities

Qualified psychologists work in the areas of work, education, criminology and counselling.

Allied Subjects 

Sociology and Law.

Key Skills

This subject offers opportunities for students to develop the nationally specified Key Skills.  The development of student Key Skills enrich their programme of study.  It will also allow them to gain acknowledged qualifications that is valued by employers and providers of higher education.  The main key skills, communication, Information Technology and application of numbers are available at Level 1,2 or 3.
