The aim of this policy is to promote an orderly environment conducive to effective learning. Minster College has in place a set of school rules and an Assertive Discipline Policy based on the principles of Rules, Rewards and Consequences. This has been devised after extensive consultation. The College has put in place a set of guidelines based upon Five Rules, Five Sets of consequences and Five levels of reward. These are displayed in all classrooms and the students are made fully aware of them. Whilst we practice greater emphasis on reward, there are times when sanctions need to be put in place. For serious breaches of discipline, time in the Isolation Unit, fixed term exclusion or permanent exclusion will be considered. This includes verbal abuse, threats or assault, drug related incidents, persistent bullying, continued failure to conform to the school rules despite strategies being put in place, or disrupting teaching and learning. Each situation will be investigated and decisions will be made after consultation with staff and others involved. This policy exists to support the welfare of all members of our community. Smoking Policy After consultation it has been agreed that this college will become a smoking free site. Any student found smoking or with someone else that is smoking will be placed in detention. Failure to attend that detention will lead to a period of time in the Isolation Unit. Duties To support these policies, staff will be on duty in the school grounds before school, during break, at lunch and at the end of school. Serious breaches of School Discipline can expect the following exclusions: Permanent Exclusion Physical assault or threats to staff Involvement in drug related incidents Continued bullying after a fixed term exclusion Continued disruption of teaching and learning
Fixed Term Exclusion/Internal Exclusion in School Verbal abuse of staff/students Persistent verbal or physical bullying Disruption of teaching and learning
